Real Madrid's decision to sell Ozil to Arsenal surprised me, says Iniesta

Barcelona star Andres Iniesta says that Real Madrid's decision to sell Mesut Ozil to Arsenal came as a big surprise to him.

The Germany international had developed into an important first-team member at the Santiago Bernabeu since joining from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2010 but Los Blancos opted to cash in on the attacking midfielder this summer after strengthening their squad with Isco and Gareth Bale.

"I was very surprised that Madrid let Ozil leave because he understands football better than any one else," Iniesta told Onda Cero. "They will have had their reasons to let him go, though."

The 29-year-old then went on to discuss the potential arrival of Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina in 2014, with Barcelona currently preparing for life after goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who has already confirmed his intention to quit Camp Nou when his contract with the club expires at the end of the season.

"Valdes is the best and we will miss him a lot. He has made his decision, though," Iniesta remarked, "[but] Casillas to Barcelona seems impossible to me. Reina? We would be delighted if he were to join Barca."

Iniesta also briefly reflected on his own contract talks and reassured fans that there will not be any problems with his renewal.

"My desire is to stay at Barcelona and the club want me to stay," he added. "There is not a problem if we both want the same thing."

The Spain international's current deal runs until June 2015.
